Would you like to know what the Google Pay app is and what it can do? We’ll explain it to you.
You can use Google Pay to pay by smartphone. This works, for example, when you shop online or in apps. If your Android smartphone has an NFC chip, you can even use Google Pay to pay quickly and contactless by mobile phone in a store. In this article, we explain what the Google Pay app can do.
Contactless payment comes in handy when you have to go fast and don’t want to rummage for change for a long time. You can do this with your EC or credit card, provided it is NFC-enabled. But you can also pay by smartphone if it is NFC-compatible. For example, there is Google Pay for Android smartphones. You can tell whether you can pay with Google Pay by the logo on the till terminal.
With the Google Pay app, you can not only pay in the supermarket – even with your Google Smartwatch – but also, for example, in apps or when you shop online. The first time you open the app, you will need to register your credit or debit card by entering its number there. This only works if your bank supports Google Pay. You can find out which banks are included in Google Pay here. Alternatively, you can connect your bank account to the app via PayPal by adding your PayPal account there.
You can register your credit or debit card in the Google Pay app. You can read this indirectly with the camera or enter the data manually. Alternatively, you can register via PayPal.
In addition to your credit or debit card, you can also save bonus cards in Google Pay. So you can collect bonus points and take advantage of discounts even if you pay via the app and don’t have the card with you. All payments you have made with Google Pay are listed in the app. This is how you keep track of things.
To protect your data, the app works with a virtual account number. Only this is given to the companies that you pay for. Your card number, on the other hand, is not saved on your mobile phone. For more significant amounts of money, you have to unlock your mobile phone for security – for lower amounts; it is sufficient to have the display switched on. Should you lose your smartphone, you can access it via the app and search for it, lock it or delete the data from Google Pay.
However, anyone who uses Google Pay must be aware that Google also collects data on payments via the app. For example, the date, time, dealer location, dealer name, and description of the goods are collected. Google can merge this data with the information from the other Google services you use with your Google account.
